Authors:

Rinku Pawar

Abstract:

Ezekiel a prominent poet of the post-independence phase was born on 16 th December 1924 to Moses Ezekiel and Diana Ezekiel of a Ben-Israel Jewish family in chawl of the Byculla Bride in Bombay. Ezekiel is one of those few men of letters who became a legend in his life time, by virtue of his creative and critical potentialities as manifested in his writings. He is or will be forever remembered as a poet. His career spans over a period a over half a century having nearly three hundreds poems including eight volumes. His most notable quality was a certain magic which drew people towards him. As Lal “Mr. Nissim Ezekiel is, I think one of our better poets because he is the most consistent in maintaining a happy balance between experiment in technique and the introspective urge. Now and then the balance is replaced by a fusion and the result is a memorable poem”.
