Groundwater abstraction
has grown rapidly in India Since the last few years. One of the major causes is
urbanization and industrialization, another major cause of waterlogged
agricultural practices. Water is the theme of the State so it is the
responsibility of governments to control and manage water resources. But under
the Environmental Protection Act, the Central Ground Water Authority may issue
guidelines to the provinces. There is currently no central law regarding
groundwater management. The problem of groundwater has occurred at a much
faster rate than the speed of the law.
