UNDERSTANDING ALTERED REALITY BY INDIAN NEWS MEDIA SPECIFICALLY IN CONTEXT OF BAUDRILLARD’S CONCEPT OF HYPERREALITY

Authors:

V. Ranga, R. Rani

Abstract:

Jean Baudrillard, a French philosopher and a postmodern critic, gave the concept of hyperreality in his work Simulacra and Simulation (1985). He criticised the US news media for covering the hyperreal and fake news. Similarly, this research scrutinizes the Indian news channels and their news topics. This empirical study also analyses the disadvantages of showing hyperreal news. A comparison between two news channels and their news headlines are also analysed to show the propaganda behind defaming the one community. This study is just a try to resuscitate news channels and to show how politics ruined the entire structure of news media for political benefits.
