A study of any culture may involve its anthropological
roots, genealogy of the families, its taboos and the gradual being and becoming
of the culture group. The
paper tries to study the ethnicity of the tribal natives of the South Gujarat,
located in the Western part of India, through its folklores as the study of
folklores is one of the impetuses all over the globe and is a remarkable
component of identity formation. These tribal communities flourished since six
hundred years and gradually the acid of modernity, acculturation and
assimilation have washed away their past tribal originality, but if we minutely
observe their culture, their residues remain in their rituals, in their
religiosity, in their communal life in some form or other. The paper is an
attempt to bring to the limelight the rich cultural heritage from ritual to
romance in the tribals of south Gujarat through their folk songs, tales, riddles,
and dances, which contributes to the enrichment of the Indian culture.
