Covid-19 Pandemic changed the way
businesses worked. Work from home; flex jobs, on-demand jobs, online education etc.
became the ‘new normal’. As a result,
Indian Economy saw an unprecedented surge in ‘Gig’ workers. Women who had left the workforce due to social
stigmas, childcare responsibilities, and disturbed work life balance saw this
as an opportunity to rejoin their careers.
The idea and objective behind writing this
Research paper is to study the trends of Gig Economy by intensively studying
the key drivers of it in Indian context. Studying of Present trends certainly
help us predict the future trends but to ensure this it was mandatory to see if
the adults employed in Gig jobs are happier and more satisfied with their jobs
as compared to those working in a traditional 8-hour job, hence primary data
was collected to compare the job satisfaction of men and women employed in both
sectors by judgmentally choosing more women respondents.
Both Primary and Secondary data are
collected to support the presented arguments in the paper.
Method opted for Primary data collection
was Questionnaire (sent virtually due to lockdown restrictions) followed by
interview in some cases based on convenience sampling.
For secondary data, literature review
comprised of studying the origin of Gig economy, articles in Dailies, journals,
Comparing Gig economy of US, India and. China, Drivers of Gig economy in US,
etc.
This paper can be used as a preliminary
study for Researchers and Scholars interested in studying the key drivers of
Gig economy in India and in comparing the job satisfaction of adults employed
in traditional vs. Gig jobs. However, this study should not serve as conclusive
evidence due to limitations of individual capacity in paradigm of Research.
