Modern life can be summed up as ‘work’ for most parts. Ideally,
one of the differences lies in working from the office or working from home;
although observing the modern workplace relations, work is a blurred concept.
Professionals and employees are constantly working. So much so that work has
occupied their weekends, leave days, sick leaves and even vacation time.Presenteeism
means being present at the workplace for more hours than is required. What
millennials are facing now is Presenteeism but outside the office. The study
focuses on understanding the manifestation of the culture of overwork in the Indian
IT sector.The findings indicate that overwork happens during vacation days,
leave days, after reaching home, while commuting- a lot of places outside the
common work area. Twelve factors were identified that contributes to overwork
viz., blurred line, insecure, adjustment, expectation, new project, time zone,
role, love job, lose job, impress boss, promotion and no delegation. Out of
these time zone, role, impress boss and no delegation contribute significantly
