Abstract:

This study aims to get an overview of Covid 19 pandemic impact on heritage sites in Indonesia. The research highlights three of heritage sites which are Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Site that situated in Central Java and Jogjakarta. These three heritage assets were chosen as the subject of study because they are integrated into a leading tourism destination, moreover, all of them located on the Indonesian island of Java, which already has appropriate infrastructure, well-planned administration, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. Documents and a literature review are used as research methods. In this study, financial reports, statistical reports and other news pieces from the national media are among the sources of information. The data found that the number of visitors to Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko Temples decreased throughout the pandemic period, resulting in financial losses of up to 140% in 2020. The fall in the number of visitors to this location had an influence on the local community's social and economic life, with many people losing their jobs, a considerable drop in income, and an increase in the number of destitute people. Furthermore, even if they used reserve fund from prior years, the management admitted that the process of sustaining these three temples was still going well.
