This
investigation attempt to find out feasibility and need to adopt domestic roof
top rain water harvesting(DRTRWH) in the rural area of Shrigonda tehsil. In
order to understand the water availability and supply system eight facet have
been considered in this investigation, including 1. Demography of respondent,2.
Sources of water, 3. Issues in water supply by local self-Government 4. Roof
catchment characteristics,5. Causes of water scarcity in dry spell,6. Reason to
purchase RO filtered water from private water vendor,7. Quality of ground water,8
Level of acceptance. The Shrigonda tehsil located in rain shadow zone of
Maharashtra consequently new water sources should be used such as reuse of
waste water and rain water harvesting. Rain water harvesting is the new water
resource which can be useful to improve water scarcity condition in the target
area.
This study is totally based on primary data collected
through filed survey. Fifty sample household randomly selected from eleven villages
and surveyed through questionnaire. On the basis of analysis of questionnaire
and interviews with local people it was clear that local people are aware about
causes underlying the water scarcity. It seems that in the first stage of such
project financial incentives and some sort of compulsion is necessary to
success this project. When there will be positive impact of this project people
will accept it voluntarily.
