Abstract:

Tests may be used to measure what students have learnt and what teachers have taught. They are the strongest motivation for students to study. In this paper firstly I will introduce the various aspects and factors to be considered when Testing. There are different kinds of tests like Achievement tests and Proficiency tests. These can take the form of either Subjective or Objective tests. Starting with all the choices that testers have in: administration, format, materials, the scoring method and the test items that can be used, this paper illustrates the concepts of Validity and Reliability. The notion of Washback is also examined. We will then examine the characteristics of a good test, while laying down some guidelines for developing multiple-choice items.
