The
paper emphases on the fight of women who aspire to be self-governing, achieve
different position for herself and to get education, freedom and identity in
the society. ManjuKapur's A Married Woman highlights Astha's fight and existence
as a new woman maintaining on liberation from patriarchal social arrangement
and thinking. She appears as a free woman, destroying the chain of tradition.
Kapur thus represents the woman from different angle by placing her in the
midst of socio-economic struggles. During her life she preserves a long silence
to domestic violence and traditional values that is approved from one
generation to another. But, nowadays, she has released her eyes wide enough to
see the world through her own viewpoints and raises her voice in the world to
protest against the male dominant society. She is a symbol of backgrounds which
is nourished with traditional values to become a sacrificial daughter, a wife
and a mother. She knows her privileges in life and is aware of the balance she
has to continue in life.
