SHIFTING PARADIGMS: A CRITICAL TREND ANAYSIS OF WOMEN’S PARTICIPATIONS IN INDIA’S HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

Abstract:

          Higher education is the mastery level of learning which is also a continuous process of formal education basically it can be followed by individuals own choices. But in Indian society, women have historically faced challenges in completing their higher education due to traditional norms, patriarchal society, lack of education and awareness and factor such as early marriage etc which leads to a higher dropout rates among women before entering in higher education. the objective of the study was examines historical trends and challenges faced by women’s in achieving higher education and also study on  trends and patterns of women’s participation in higher education in India including female participation in higher education, gross enrollment ratio- GER, discipline wise enrollment and level wise enrollment of female in higher education by using secondary source of data from AISHE(All india survey on higher education)reports (2011-2022) and the census of India 2011, research article etc. however the study also highlight important challenges faced by women participation in higher education especially in technical and professional courses, such as engineering and also in doctorate level , while their participation was higher in discipline such as, education, home science and medical fields etc. the study found that in recent years, significant progress has been made in women participation in higher education and also gross enrollment ratio has also improved, still there is need for improved policy measures to ensure equitable and inclusive higher education.
