The ‘Indian knowledge system’ (IKS)
possesses a unique, rich and diversified tradition, encompassing a wide array
of wisdom traditions, from Vedic study to different local and language
literatures. It encompasses various domains, having evolved in India over
millennia, including philosophy, science, art, medicine, spirituality, etc..
The ‘National Education Policy’ 2020 anticipates a significant shift in Indian
education system, grounded in the IKS. This policy has acknowledged the deep
history of old and everlasting Indian wisdom and philosophy as a guiding base. The
aim of the study to address the question how higher education and IKS are
connected in the light of NEP 2020 and Why the IKS relevance in the 21st
century? The researchers suggested that potential future pathways for IKS by
examining the substantial challenges and issues intrinsic to the higher
educational system.
