In
the aftermath of Independence and Partition, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
articulated a vision of national unity that extended beyond administrative
integration. This study examines how Patel conceptualized human unity by
analyzing his speeches and writings during this period of crisis. Using
thematic literary analysis of Life and Work of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
(ed. P. D. Saggi), the paper highlights key ideas such as emotional
integration, heart unity, communal harmony, and pluralistic cohesion. The findings
show that Patel viewed unity as an ethical and affective process rather than
superficial nationalism, offering a moral foundation for democracy and
relevance for addressing contemporary social and political divisions.
