This study aims at
gaining insights into risk factors that face students in Tanzania secondary
schools putting them at risk of dropping out of school. It was guided by the objective
of studying the number of
vulnerable students in Ludewa District Council for five consecutive years of
2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, determining risk factors for vulnerability of
students in Ludewa District Council, investigating the availability of reliefs
to vulnerable students in Ludewa District Council and suggesting ways to reduce
vulnerability of students in Ludewa District Council. The study has shown that the
number of vulnerable students is persistent throughout the years and that girls
are more at risk than boys. Form one students also are seen to be more
vulnerable than other classes. Financial difficulties experienced by families
was the highest risk factor in its categories. There are few relief measures
taken to alleviate the challenges of vulnerable students calling for the need
to provide
emotional and psychological support to students. Efforts should be put forth to
alleviate the challenges that students who could potentially quit school face
in order to create a conducive learning environment. The study recommends that
other studies should be made on finding out why the number of vulnerable girls
is persistent in Ludewa District Council.
