TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN SOUTH GUJARAT WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE STATUE OF UNITY

Abstract:

The South Gujarat, also known as Dakshin Gujarat is a region in the Indian state of Gujarat. Southern Gujarat comprises of seven districts; Surat, Bharuch, Narmada, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, and Tapi. There are several places of tourism in South Gujarat. But the Statue of Unity is the greatest Tourist Attractions in the region of South Gujarat.  The dynamic Statue of Unity is dedicated to the Iron Man of India – Sardar Vallabhhai Patel who was the first deputy prime minister and home minister of independent India. Sardar Patel is credited with uniting 560 princely states in pre-independent India hence the name of the statue is christened as Statue of Unity. It is considered to be the world’s tallest statue and symbolized unity, power and peace. The Statue of Unity was added in the ‘Eight Wonders’ of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The objective of the present paper is to study the important of the statue of the unity in tourism. The methodology of the paper is, historical, descriptive, analytical as well as qualitative. The result shows that the Statue of Unity is considered to be the world’s tallest statue and it is Generating Revenue of the Government of India and Enhancing Employment Opportunities for the people.
