J. Vijay Ratna Kumar, B. Jishamol, R K Maya
paper explores the impact of the Spanish Influenza outbreak in Madras, India,
during the early 20th century. Despite the staggering loss of life caused by
the outbreak, little information about its impact and vaccination history has
been recorded in administrative, health, vaccination, and sanitary reports.
Through the examination of primary sources, including historical accounts, medical reports, and official records, this study seeks to fill this knowledge
gap and better understand the impact of the Spanish Influenza in Madras. In
addition to analyzing the impact of the outbreak, the paper will compare and
contrast the Spanish Influenza with the current COVID-19 pandemic. The results
of this research could provide insights into better pandemic preparedness and
response in the future.
